Hinman family papers [manuscript], 1873-1952 (bulk 1873-1900)

Collection primarily includes correspondence and miscellaneous papers of Alanson Hinman, 1822-1908, teacher at Whitman mission, 1844-47; collector of customs at Astoria, 1867-75; trustee at Pacific University from 1854. Most of the correspondence concerns the U.S. Customs House. Also includes letters from Margaret Hinman, granddaughter, to Lancaster Pollard, Oct. 27, 1952, concerning references to W.H. Gray appearing in Allen's "Doctor in buckskin" and "Devoto's Across the wide Missouri."
